Good dental hygiene should be established at a very young age. Plaque will begin to form as soon as a child’s first tooth arrives. Brushing teeth twice a day, a balanced diet and regular check ups with your dentist are essential to ensuring healthy teeth and gums for life.

It is recommended to bring your child for inspections from an early age with the date of their first examination around their 2nd birthday.

Benefits:

  • Your child will become comfortable with visiting the practice
  • Provide your child with the best chance to have a good oral hygiene program for life

Bad breath is a serious problem suffered by one in four adults, damaging people’s self-esteem, social and professional lives.

Thee are many causes of bad breath and most are usually a result of a minor problems in the mouth, however, it is important to identify and treat the cause of bad breath as this may be symptomatic of a more serious source. Often a Hygienist can eliminate the problem easily.

Other causes to consider:

  • Teeth decay
  • Gum disease
  • Smoking
  • Impacted food
  • Diet
  • Throat or tonsil infections
  • Dryness of airways and mouth
  • Excessive bacteria in the mouth and tongue
  • General poor oral hygiene

Fillings  are used to restore decayed and damaged teeth and prevent further deterioration.  Tooth coloured fillings can be used as an alternative to silver amalgam fillings to maintain the natural colouring of your tooth and to complete your natural smile.

These can be provided as one stage or two stage inlays/onlays depending on the desired result.

Sealants can protect adults and children’s back teeth, so that they may never need to have a filling! They are a protective composite coating, which are applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth at risk of decay. The chewing surfaces of the back teeth have small grooves or fissures which often extend right down into the tooth itself. However well the teeth are brushed, these fissures are very difficult to clean thoroughly. Bacteria and food particles stick to them and eventually cause decay.

Fissure sealants completely seal off these grooves, preventing any food particles or bacteria from getting in. They do not affect the normal chewing function of teeth.

Tooth whitening is the easiest, most popular and most cost effective way of improving the appearance of your smile.  Our teeth stain through our general every day diet.  Our teeth also stain with age, tooth decay, fillings or tartar buid-up.  Teeth whitening can be highly effective at enhancing your smile, hence why it has become so popular.  This is a non-invasive procedure, we will provide you with your custom-made bleaching trays, and home bleaching kit to take home.

Since teeth are white it is all too easy to visibly stain them, especially if you smoke or drink a lot of coffee or red wine. Fortunately our dental practitioners will be able to restore their natural colour with a good clean to remove surface staining. Teeth whitening treatment is also available for a bright, shiny smile.

What is involved?

Your dentist or hygienist will start by giving your teeth a good clean in order to remove any surface stains or tartar. They will then record the shade of your teeth using either a colour chart or by taking a digital photograph. This allows us to agree with you what shade of whiteness you would like. Then depending on the treatment option you choose the treatment varies.

In Surgery Whitening Technique

This is highly effective, but needs to be carefully carried out. Firstly protection is placed around the gums, lips and cheeks, and you will be given glasses to protect against the effects of the whitening light being used. Then the whitening agent is applied to the teeth before being exposed to a specialised lights source to activate it. This process takes around 15 minutes and is done three times. Once this is completed your dentist will carefully wash all the whitening agent off your teeth. You will immediately see how much whiter your teeth look.

At Home with a whitening trays

An impression is taken of your teeth and two custom made trays are made to contain the whitening gel. Patients take the trays and gel home and wear the trays for prolonged periods (usually through the night) for several sessions until the bleaching process is complete.

Benefits:

  • Whiter, brighter teeth
  • Can improve your smile and confidence

  • Teeth cleaning and polishing

Dental phobia is an issue that has been in existence for some time, but only recently has it begun to get the recognition it deserves. There are scores of people who have to deal with this problem, which can often leave them feeling isolated and without help. There are varying degrees by which an individual can experience dental phobia, but many of us will admit to feeling at least a minor level of fear when we visit the dentist. Our Practice offers another form of assistance for anxious patients. This is a process that will leave you in a dream-like state during the procedure but still able to communicate with the dentist. If you are undergoing a particularly invasive procedure or simply feel afraid, then this is an excellent option to make dental treatment achievable. Dental sedation comes in three main forms and they are inhalation sedation, oral sedation and intravenous sedation. Our team will be happy to discuss the most suitable option for you.

Veneers are a great way to cover stains, close gaps and straighten teeth. A veneer is a fine layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of your tooth. Veneers are
extremely thin, but once bonded to the tooth they’re very strong and durable. Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your teeth. A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured tooth or to lighten your front teeth.

A veneer can make a chipped tooth look intact again. The porcelain covers the whole of the front of the tooth with a thicker section replacing the broken part.

Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

Because they are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond very little preparation of the tooth is needed. Some types of veneers require no preparation of the tooth at all.

Crowns are a discreet and effective way to restoring and strengthening damaged, broken or weakened teeth.  Each crown is individually modeled to fit perfectly over your existing tooth, making it strong and giving it a natural appearance.

Our laboratory uses the highest quality of porcelain and materials to construct your perfect ‘tooth”.  Your dentist will provide the technician  with the correct shade/colour and shape according to his analysis and findings to provide you with the strength and cosmetic benefit to enhance your smile.

Benefits:

  • Natural looking teeth
  • Protection of weakened teeth
  • Improved cosmetic appearance
  • Can reduce the risk of decay

A bridge is an excellent way of restoring the appearance of a patient smile if they are missing one or two teeth.  They are effective at restoring a natural smile, holding the remaining teeth in place and reducing the susceptibility of decay and gum disease for the patients remaining teeth.

The bridge is a custom made permanent false tooth that is fixed to the remaining teeth.  An excellent option to consider for a missing tooth and less expensive than implants, with good function and cosmetic appearance.

Benefits:

  • Restore and enhance your smile
  • Can improve your speech pending on position
  • Improve general oral health

Porcelain inlays and onlays can be used to restore teeth that require large fillings.  They provide excellent cosmetic results, along with increased strength and durability.  The inlay and onlay are bonded onto the tooth in order to prevent further deterioration requiring root canal treatment.  The inlay and onlay’s are  made by our laboratory technicians.

Benefits:

  • Natural looking teeth
  • Increased strength and durability
  • Somnowell
  • Stain removal
  • Tooth coloured fillings

People loose teeth for all sorts of reasons inducing illness, accident and deficient care.  The loss of a single tooth can lead to the loss of other teeth, and once teeth have gone it results in bone loss.  This not only shortens your face and speeds up the ageing process, but can cause other teeth to become loose which are then at risk of falling out.  Your features droop and generally appear distorted.  Dentures are used to replace the function and appearance of natural teeth and to restore your smile

 Benefits:

  • Natural looking smile
  • Dentures are durable
  • Allow patient to chew more easily
  • Dentures are removable and easy to clean

Dental Implants can provide a wide range of solutions to replace missing teeth.  Tailored to each individual patient, these solutions can help you get back good function, quality of life and enhance your smile.

Implants are a major advancement in dental care.  Not only do they hold the aesthetic advantage of recreating a natural smile they also help to safe-guard your overall oral health.

Benefits:

  • Implants are artificial roots and behave just like natural teeth
  • Implants are made of titanium, which should not be rejected
  • Implants help to preserve your dental bone in your jaw
  • The procedure through which the implants are placed is short
  • If proper care and correct oral hygiene is followed, implants are a long-lasting solution.
  • Allow you to eat all the foods you desire
  • Allow you to smile with confidence

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specialises in diagnosing, preventing and treating dental and facial irregularities in children and adults.

If left untreated, crooked teeth can lead to an improper bite, tooth wear, tooth decay and gum disease. Crooked teeth can also result in a loss of personal self-confidence. With different kinds of braces, orthodontics can bring your teeth and jaws into proper alignment and give you the facial balance you need for a healthy and attractive smile. Creating a beautiful smile through orthodontics can improve not only the health of your teeth but also your self-esteem: improvements in personal appearance have been proven to enhance our mental and physical well-being. In this way, orthodontic treatment can benefit your social and career success, as well as improve your attitude towards life.

Root canal treatment is necessary when the blood and nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay or injury.  This can lead to the common dental abscess and severe dental infection and facial pain.  Endodontic therapy removes this dead or dying tissue thereby sterilizing this area of the tooth and preventing such problems in future.

It is very important to treat root canal problems at the earliest possible stage.  Leaving the infection untreated causes a lot of pain and can be dangerous.

Hygienist meticulously clean patients’ teeth and are specially trained to  provide deep and highly effective removal of plaque.  This is an essential part of protecting your oral health and ensuring you have strong teeth for  life.

Regular visits to the hygienist helps prevent gum disease, bleeding gums and dental decay.  Your hygienist will also provide advice on diet and the most effective ways of preventing dental decay.  We highly recommend regular visits to our patients as this is detrimental to complete oral health and well being.

Benefits:

  • Preventative oral care
  • Teeth cleaning and polishing
  • Administration of fluoride
  • Applying fissure seal if needed
  • Stain removal
  • Tooth whitening
  • Reduce bad breath

Sealants can protect adults and children’s back teeth, so that they may never need to have a filling! They are a protective composite coating, which are applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth at risk of decay. The chewing surfaces of back teeth have small grooves or fissures which often extend right down into the tooth itself.

From boxing to basketball, cricket to cycling, hockey to horse riding, football to netball, rounders to rugby, and several in between, contact sports, and those that involve speed or bats and balls, can seriously endanger teeth. Properly fitted mouth guard is an important piece of sports gear. It cushions blows that might otherwise cause broken teeth, and injuries to the lips, tongue, face and jaw.

Many people are afflicted with ‘bruxism’, or teeth grinding. Some people may do this consciously during the day, but it is a larger problem at night while you are asleep.
Grinding your teeth can damage enamel, wear down teeth, cause jaw pain, or irritate your gums. The noise from teeth grinding can also disturb your spouse’s sleep if loud enough. If you grind your teeth you should consider a night guard. The night guard, which is very similar to a mouth guard worn by athletes, provides a barrier between your top and bottom teeth while you sleep.

All night guards are custom fitted for comfort and to allow for proper breathing. Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and have the night guard created by a dental lab.
